We Are Here For YOU!
Leader Bios
![]() Jon Gilliland
Yo! My name is Jon, and I joined AEBC as Student Minister in September 2011. I know I look 14 but I am, in fact, 28 years old. (Note the facial hair.) I'm the immeasurably happy husband of the indelibly beautiful Amanda Gilliland. We recently moved to Greenville from Gadsden, Alabama, and we're the proud parents of a cat named Banjo, a cat named Leo, and a houseplant named Carl. (Carl's our favorite. He's cleaner.) I accepted Jesus as my Savior when I was 9 years old, but I didn't fully understand what it meant to surrender to Jesus as my Lord until I was 15. Almost two years later, I began asking God what He wanted me to do with my life. After some patient listening and a lot of dying to myself, God whispered to my heart during a youth retreat and called me into ministry. That calling led me to Samford University, where I earned a B.A. in Religion, and then to seminary at Beeson Divinity School. I graduated from Beeson with a M.Div. in December 2009. I'm still pretty wet behind the ears, but I'm intensely passionate about student ministry and entirely committed to doing it right. My heart's desire is to see teenagers transformed by Christ, connected to a community of Christ-followers, and sent out to live on mission for Christ wherever the Lord leads them. Some of my favorite things include: hanging out with my wife, jamming to great music (especially Jars of Clay and the Beatles), sharing a good meal and a good laugh with good friends, playing guitar, traveling, reading, camping, drinking coffee (I might be addicted), and snacking on dill pickles, sushi, wasabi peas, chips and salsa/guacamole, cheesecake, and boiled peanuts. Feel free to drop by my office anytime. (You can swipe candy right off my desk, and I'll even let you wear my sombrero if you want!) Thanks for reading! I hope to see you soon! Friend me on Facebook!
